[Food Review + Discounts] Dining experience at Mellben Signature - New dishes that you MUST TRY and there's discounts too!

Hi Everyone,

I'm back with another yummy-licious food review and I've listed this place as one of my favorite seafood place to go!

I bet many of you might have heard of AMK Mellben Seafood Restaurant.
They're really experts in crab dishes and many others.
Been hearing great reviews and raves from my fellow friends and I'm so happy I get to try it this time!

They've recently opened another new branch (*sister brand) near Tanjong Pagar!

MELLBEN SIGNATURE
Bestway Building,
12 Prince Edward Road
Singapore 079212

The location is easy to find. It only takes you approx. 6 mins to reach here from Tanjong Pagar MRT!
Just go to Tanjong Pagar MRT and take Exit D, then walk towards Prince Edward Road,
it is located inside Bestway Building. :)

*There's parking lots available too, but are chargeable.

Can't wait to dig in those delicious goodies!

Garlic Steamed Bamboo Clam
I'm a sucker for dishes with garlic! It's THE BEST ingredient one can use to flavor any dishes!
I love this alot because it's done well, not losing its tangy-ness with loads of garlic to compliment! NICE~

 Deep Fried Yam Scallop

I personally liked this dish because I've tried many yam dishes but usually are the traditional ones
(*Yam ring), but this is good to share with family and friends. Not only that, the outer layer was fried till crisp and the scallop is still as fresh with its juices oozing out. Not too drying or oily at all.

You can choose to dip with the sauce provided but I would suggest to go without it so that you can taste its natural flavor. :)

Nonya Style Steamed Fish
If you like sweet, sour with a little spicy kick, you can order this to try.
The fish is fresh and the flavors are well combined. Not too overpowering.

 Mango Prawns
Pretty unique dish I would say.
The sauce is not too sweet and love the freshness of the prawns even though they've fried it.

Signature Salted Egg Pork Ribs
When you hear salted egg dishes, you'll only think of prawns, crabs and maybe squids.
How about Pork Ribs?
Its deliciously tender. No wonder its their Signature dish :)

 Signature Seafood Beancurd
Crisp on the outside, soft in the inside.

XO Sauce Asparagus with Shimeji Mushrooms
Getting sick of oyster sauce veggies or Hongkong Style veggies?
Maybe you can try this dish as it still brings out the natural flavor of the mushrooms and asparagus.

Icy Sweet & Sour Pork
This is one of their newly invented dish which i must say is pretty interesting!
Tried Sweet & Sour Pork in ice and longan?
This is definitely my first time!
The outer crisp was still preserved and the tender pork meat is still warm despite the food is mixed with ice.

Many might have know this:
Mellben Signature is well known for their crab dishes especially the must-try crab beehoon and butter crabs!
The best part of it is that they only uses live crab and that already tells you how fresh their ingredients are!

That's a whole lot of it and they are really big!

Selfie time with crabbies~ HOHOHO!
I'm gonna have you in my tummy~

And so here it is....

CRAB DISHES!

 Chilli Crab
Many of you know about this dish.
You'll never go wrong with this dish. Never. And you must order it with 'Man Tou' (mini fried buns). Nuff'said.

Creamy Butter Crab
The creamy butter doesn't overpower the natural flavor of the crab and seriously, the crab is super fresh!!

 Claypot Crab Bee Hoon Soup
The broth is rich and milky with all the goodness of the big, succulent crab.
yummmm....*must-try :)

Double Boiled Hashima in Rock Sugar and Red Dates
We end our dinner with this healthy dessert that's great for its health and beauty benefits!
Served hot but if you prefer it cold, just pour some ice into it.

Generous amount of Hashima!

Thank you Mellben Signature for having us!
Thanks Pretty babe, Maybeline too! <3

Delicious food all cleared by us! Yeap, We're very hungry lot! hahaha!
Great to catch up with friends too!

[Food Update + Food Review] The Manhattan FISH Market lauches its newest, freshest star creation, The Manhattan Star Platter, available NOW to 31 October 2013!

Hungry for more seafood?

The Manhattan FISH Market yet again tempt us with their new freshest star creation,
Manhattan Star Platter!

From now to 31 October 2013,
you get to try out this platter which uses five different seafood cooked in five fantastic cooking methods! Whether flamed, baked, poached,  fried or grilled, The Manhattan Star Platter has it all and you  will definitely be spoilt  for choice, just like me!

Brought my parents to the Marina Square outlet on a Saturday and it was super packed!
It was their first time trying out Manhattan Fish Market.

Had Cala Cala and Gummy Bear beverages for dinner.
My first time trying Cala Cala even though I've been to Manhattan Fish Market a few times. It's refreshingly sweet with a tinge of sour and sparkling soda simply quench my thirst.
My mum preferred Cala Cala while me and my dad preferred Gummy Bear! :)
 Soup of the Day

The Manhattan Star Platter (S$39.95)
Consists of a Mediterranean Baked Fish, Grilled Calamari, Fried Oysters, Poached Garlic Herb Mussels and Manhattan Flaming Prawns. Served with Garlic Herb rice.

The prawns before being 'flamed' in front of us..

 Flaming in progress...

 Wooo!

Zerika's Review

Fried Oysters -  crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Grilled Calamari - one of the tastiest as you would know that over cooking calamari will lose its juiciness and chewy texture however, even my mum (super fussy eater) praised that it's well done here. :)

Manhattan Flaming Prawns - definitely the best as its the restaurant's signature and its the highlight as well. Both my parents and I love it so much that we can't get enough of it.

Mediterranean Baked Fish - the flavorful spices and herbs sealed in the baked dory fillet was pretty good. Great to have it with the Garlic Herb rice.

Garlic Herb Mussels - I was a little disappointed though on this side. Our platter came with the Mussels but without the signature Garlic Herb Sauce. The Mussels were well-cooked but because there's no sauce on it,  it was a little dry.
I give a benefit of doubt that the restaurant might have been busy and miss out that part.

Other than that, It was all good. Serving is good for 2 pax.
(*I ordered another ala carte pasta and a dessert to go along with it and share with my parents)

Do try out the Manhattan Star Platter from NOW till 31st October 2013!

(All prices quoted are before tax and service charge and all meals stated are for dine-in only)

[Food Review] Muthiah Restaurant - Working or staying in the East? near Changi Business Park? Love Indian Cuisines? If yes, then hear me out :)

Heyoz!

I'm back with a food review and this time, it's one of my favorite: Indian Cuisines.

Thanks Susan for inviting me as her guest and it was totally enjoyable.

Muthiah Restaurant

Situated at No 2 Changi Business Park Ave 1 #01-05
it was like a hidden gem in the East opened on 10 June 2013.
The newly opened restaurant, specialized in Chettinadu South Indian Cuisine, was a little hard to find at first due to the construction site taking place nearby and it's right at the end of the block.
Do ask around if you're not sure where it is.

Cozy corner if you are looking for just a place to chill with your friends and love ones.

And guess what...

It's also the only place in Singapore that offers Powerspot.sg for charging your phones with just a simple device. You can charge your phones while having your meal at Muthiah restaurant, without those unsightly wires! Cool huh!

Here's what I had that evening:

Lemon Pudina (Mint & Lemon Juice) $3+
Mango Lassi $3.20

Ah huh.. wondering why I am having 2 drinks? It's my job to tell you how it taste like right :)
The Lemon Pudina (on the left) is uber refreshing, not too sour and not too sweet, just nice~. The Mango Lassi, on the other hand, is a little sweet and not that cold. I believe if the drink is chilled rightly, it should taste awesome.

Papadum

The favorites. I always ask for more because it's like an indian version of chips. I like it! :)

Fish Head Curry $23

It's quite a good portion for the price at a restaurant. The curry gravy is thick and tasty with all the right spices, the fish head was good.  However, the veggies accompanying it e.g. Brinjal and Lady fingers was a little tough (hard to chew).  It would be great if it was cooked a little longer so that it is soft at first bite. Other than that, it's good! :)

Crab Masala $10

Didn't manage to try the crab masala because I find it a little hard to eat especially when you need 'pincer' to crack the shell up and so happen the restaurant doesn't have them, so is either you crack it using your teeth or you skip it. But the masala spice cooked with it (I tasted just the masala part) was tasty and a little spicy
(I can take spicy very very well. heh heh ;) ). Heard from the other bloggers attended saying that there's not much of crab meat in it too. I guess it depends on the crab season.

IMO: Pretty appetizing but if I were to visit the restaurant again, I would try out other masala dishes instead.

Chicken Kothu Parata $6.50

Really interesting dish I would say. You might have thought it will appear to be prata style but it was meshed up and somewhat like minced version of it. Have it while it's served hot! Because I tried 1-2 mouthful of it and It was yummy served hot, and once when it cools off, not that fantastic. Be careful of the chicken bones in it though because I accidentally chew on some chipped bones.

Murg Cheese Ki Gulesthan $14

This is one of my favorite! I think I can have it all by myself, hurhur! The chicken was tender and it taste real good combine with the cheese and other spices. Not spicy at all. It's definitely one of the dish you must order when you visit Muthiah Restaurant.

Tangdi Kali Mirchi $17

Very interesting and unique dish.
At first I thought it was something like banana fritters but it wasn't. It was actually a chicken dish.
Surprising huh. But it wasn't my favorite. The outer layer of the 'skin' tasted somewhat have a texture like cotton-candy when you have your first bite but the taste was kinda like salty, sourish and I ended up just eating the chicken in it. The chicken was well-done with tenderness.

Garlic Naan $3.50

Having it on its own or with the Fish Head Curry was perfect. You can taste the generous tiny bits of garlic and its fragrance. However, do have it straight when it's served because when the Naan cools off, the garlic tastes a little bitter compared to when it's hot. :)

Prawns Fry $10

The prawns are juicy and tasty. The spices used marinate and fry with the prawns was pretty fragrant.
It was our last main dish and I was too full.
Shall visit Muthiah Restaurant probably with my family one day and try out this dish again.:)

 Masala Tea $1.80

I've always love to have Masala Tea after meals to leave a sweet taste in my mouth.
Another reason was because masala tea has always been one of the indian's signature drink. Tried couple of places before but over at Muthiah Restaurant, it's a little too sweet to my liking. I have sweet tooth but masala tea needs to have a balanced of sweetness.
If it wasn't so sweet, I think it will be a great way to end the meal. :)

*The above reviews are purely my opinion.

Overall, I find the pricing quite affordable. Portions are good for sharing.
Great place to just relax and have a good meal.

I would definitely come back and try out other dishes and share with you guys my thoughts again.
There's way too many dishes I want to try out!
(Just look at the menu O_O)

Thanks Susan once again and Thanks Jacelyn.
Nice knowing the lovely bloggers attended and hope to see you girls again  :)

[Food review] Onaka Restaurant & Wine Bar, nutritiously healthy for the better you!

We love food but how many of us are conscious of food and chooses the best for our health?
Well, I get to know that there's this restaurant encourages their customers to be more conscious and mindful of food and using only wholesome and selective organic ingredients for their cuisines.

Thanks William and Chef Benson for the invitation!

ONAKA
Optimum Nutrition And Kitchen Arts

Advocating a realistic, sensible and pragmatic approach with this tagline:
"Eat Consciously; Live Mindfully"!

Let's have a look at what I had that night!

First dish in the evening..

Asian Hummus

You get to dip with either bread or the nachos that we all love, or BOTH!
I surprisingly love the bread as it's a little crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, great for dips!

However, many of us ended up munching on the nachos, it's really yummy even on its own!Teehee!

Omega Soy Smoothies
Thick, flavourful and delicious when drinking! I literally drank all at one shot!
Omega is not only great for our body, it's great for our joints and bones too!

But do have it slowly as it might fill you up really quickly.

Bread Basket
This is definitely one of the yummilicious buns I could ever ask for because it was baked FRESH!
Onaka promote Low Glycemic food and use only whole grains and adopts a "No White Bread, No White Rice and No White Sugar" Policy!
It's warm when served, lightly crisp on the outside and soft in the inside.

You can either dip it with the olive dressing served or just indulge the bun on its own.

See how happy I am munching on those mini buns.. but I had about 2 and shy to continue because there's more than 8 of us and I couldn't keep on reaching to the bun.. oh so tempting!

Water Melon Sashimi
You must be thinking what exactly is this and how does it taste like?
This is one of the most unique dish I have ever tried so far in my life!
I was wondering the same exact questions when this dish was served before us!
Well, This is one of the restaurant's signature dish! It doesn't taste fishy at all or rather, it's not even fish! The idea was to creating similar texture just like sashimi using watermelon.
A really unique, refreshing dish I would say.

Tofu Avo
Love your greens then you will love this dish! This is one of my favorites!
Fresh greens, rich in Vits avocado, tofu pieces and nuts are just so deliciously-fresh!
You get to taste the freshness and the crunchiness of the greens!
FYI, about 50% of the menu is Vegetarian! So healthy and yet you get to eat without feeling guilt! :)

Mushroom Tea
Yes, you heard right, it's mushroom tea... in a tea cup!
This is another really unique experience you will get when you visit Onaka.
Just take a look below and you will know. :)

Refreshing, tasty mushroom tea!

Here's our mushroom tea model, Evalee!

And myself of course!

Next up...
Roasted Mushroom Soba
Great smelling roasted mushrooms with soba might be new to all of us.
This is one of the dish you will love if you like Japanese soba.

Organic Pineapple Fried Rice with Quinoa
Flavourful and tasty pineapple fried rice that is! Using organic rice to prepare this dish is just so thoughtful! Although it's fried rice, you won't taste much of the oiliness at all.
Onaka uses all-natural ingredients without artificial additives, chemicals, colorings, flavorings, MSG, and tran-fats! And they do not use pork and lard at the restaurant!

Hot and Sour Prawns Rice Noodles
To me, this is a MUST-TRY dish from Onaka! One of their signature dish, the prawns are so fresh and chewy, the sauce taste almost like tomyam and it's really delicious! I think I can finish one plate of this by myself! hurhur~
I like the fact that you can still taste the freshness of the prawns, the mushrooms and the noodles even though the sauce is flavourful.

Just look at that... hungry now??
Pear and Salmon
Another signature dish from Onaka, this is also quite an interesting pair. By mixing both the pear and salmon along side with other ingredients, you will be surprised how tasty this dish is.

Pumpkin Seabass
Does it look like some soya bean cake or tempai sorta dish?

This is actually one great looking seabass dish!
The fish is fresh and I really like the generous amount of fish meat they serve in just a plate!

Duck Pancake
This is one of the raved dish from most of the blogger friends there.
The pancake was actually hand-made, combine with duck meat in between, this dish surprized all of us. You got to have it while its still warm!

48 hr Beef

For those who love beef, this is a dish not to be missed!
The effort in preparing and serving up a great beef dish is unbelievably difficult and need loads of work because you wouldn't want your beef to be tough!
I rarely take beef but this is delicious with the sauce poured over.

Next sweet treats..
Avo Choco Emotion with Cocao 7 Chocolate
Incredibly creative! When this was served, I gradually put on a smile and eager to take photo of it already! Can you resist the cute chocolate dino and grumpy man?
Self Imaginary: Dino seems happy playing with the muddy greens, while man becomes grumpy after sliding off his banana crisp slide into the muddy green. hurhur!
It's unique pair again, with Avocado and Chocolate.
It taste like mousse cake, with the right amount of sweetness in it!
I love the banana crisp especially!

Indeed! Really happy and glad to know about Onaka!
I will definitely be back for the Hot and Sour Prawn Rice Noodles soon! ;p
It's great to catch up with fellow blogger friends and made new friends too! :)
